Prof. Lee Woosung, CEO of RISTI CONSULTING from South Korea, has visited the Water Institute to strengthen collaboration in advanced technology for producing bone char aimed at removing fluoride from drinking water.

RISTI (Research Institute for Sustainable Technology Innovation) CONSULTING is a South Korean-based organization dedicated to promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly technological solutions. The institute specializes in research and development of low-cost, high-efficiency technologies for water purification, environmental protection, and rural development.

Prof. Lee Woosung’s visit to the Water Institute marks a strategic effort to enhance partnership in applying bone char technology an innovative, low-cost water purification method that uses treated animal bones to absorb and remove fluoride from contaminated drinking water sources.

This technology is particularly vital for communities in Tanzania facing the challenge of excessive fluoride levels in water, which can lead to health issues such as dental and skeletal fluorosis. The Water Institute, in collaboration with RISTI, has already installed a pilot bone char system at its Ngurdoto Research Campus in Arusha Region.

This system demonstrates a sustainable, locally adaptable solution that can be expanded to other fluoride-affected areas in Tanzania. The partnership aims to further develop, test, and scale up the use of this technology in support of safe water access and improved public health. #majikwamaendeleo
